Reducing Child Poverty in Brighton and Hove – Next Steps
A message for the VCS from Sarah Colombo BHCC Childcare Strategy Manager.
Brighton and Hove Council will shortly publish the final child poverty needs assessment. A recent positive discussion at the Council’s Informal Cabinet resulted in a request for a portfolio of evidence showing some of the key work in the City that is contributing to reducing child poverty.
This portfolio of evidence will provide additional up to date information about services and is an opportunity for organisations and projects to show their contribution to this important outcome.
Please look at the form attached here and consider whether or not you would like to give us more/information about how your service contributes to reducing child poverty. You might find it helpful to look at the child poverty ‘pyramid’ which is attached here also.
The deadline for returns is 14th September 2011
Consulting on strategic recommendations – what key areas should we focus on in order to have the best chance of reducing child poverty? We now need to decide on the best way forward and we want to hear your views by:
- Filling in the consultation on the Council’s consultation portal – we will launch this in September and circulate the link to CVSF members
- Attending a consultation workshop at which partners can contribute to the development of the strategic recommendations - We have a provisional date of the 21st September and will circulate details nearer the time.
- Requesting support for smaller discussion meetings within your organisation or face to face interviews – please contact Sarah Colombo (details below)
We would particularly like to hear the views of children, young people and families. We feel the best route through to their voices is via the frontline services with which families connect. This could be by sitting down together with the portal questions on line or via a simple printed questionnaire or by more informal conversations. Please contact Sarah if you would like to support families to be heard.
