Reducing Inequality Review
Worthy of particular note is the Reducing Inequalities Review. This is a major piece of work being undertaken on behalf of the 2020 Community Partnership. Over 100 different people and groups participated in the research and evidence gathering.
A steering group, made up of various stakeholders, was appointed. The purpose of the review was to understand where, and amongst which communities, inequality is still being experienced in the city and to consider what policy approaches and priorities would be needed to reduce it.
What is inequality?
Inequality, in this review, is used as a label for deprivation and disadvantage. The four main inequalities are:
- employment;
- education;
- health and disability;
- and housing.
Particularly vulnerable are the multiply disadvantaged. They are characterised as being those experiencing all four inequalities.
The Reducing Inequalities Review, for the first time, brings together an extensive evidence base to enable a coherent and up-to-date understanding of the needs of the city. For further information, please look at this Frequently Asked Questions document.
Conducting the review
The review was undertaken in two phases. Phase one was essentially a needs analysis for the city. The final report from Phase One is available here >>>
Phase two offered up recommendations for approaches and strategies which would reduce inequality in the city. Opening in a separate window from the 2020 site, there is a summary of the Phase Two report >>>
