Your Voice Counts
A new training programme for CVSF's elected reps
If you are thinking of standing for election to become a CVSF representative, but you're not sure what it involves, then this training is for you. Representing the third sector can be a rewarding experience for both you and your organisation, as your knowledge and experience helps shape the policies and plans which affect us all.
The next six week course (you will need to be able to attend each session) will start in January 2011. Over the six weeks you will acquire the knowledge and skills you need to be an effective representative for the community and voluntary sector.
Week 1 - Introduction to the family of partnerships in Brighton and Hove
Week 2 - The aims and principles of community engagement; what do we mean by participation and how is this informed by our values?
Week 3- The roles and responsibilities of a rep; what do we do and how do we communicate that to others?
Week 4 - How to influence decision making; learn the essential people skills that help you listen and be heard.
Week 5 - Gathering sector views; find out about position statements and giving feedback to the sector.
Week 6 - discussion and reflection on what we have learnt
This training programme is designed to be fun, relevant and informative. There will be plenty of opportunity for group discussions and practical activities. The trainer, Keith Beadle, has direct experience of being a rep, has a long history of working in the community and voluntary sector and currently works for CVSF.
CVSF is running this training programme with The Working Together Project and The Trust for Developing Communities.
